Movies

11/17/23 Asteroid City by Wes Anderson

I watched this in theatres and I thought it was fun. Wes Anderson is always doing fast paced scenes with some interesting twist going on. This one involved the movie being filmed but also the actors behind the movie as well. It was confusing but basically, a play about the making of the film along with the film at the same time.

I got this for $10 and it includes the Blu-ray, DVD and digital copy.

11/14/2023 The Marvels (2023)

Marvel's second Captain Marvel movie. The first one came out just before the final Avengers movie.

I continue to enjoy all the Marvel content. I don't have any complaints about these movies. I think they're fun and not at all meant to be taken seriously. Anyone complaining about CGI, I don't understand. We used to have polygon characters pop up and still thought the movies were amazing. I don't care how far we've come. If I'm not explicitly looking for some bad graphics then I don't notice anything, Maybe I'm just blind, but I saw this movie in IMAX 3-D and had no visual upsets. I'm used to completely virtual worlds so maybe I'm just unphased by an army of cats and kittens that probably aren't real.

I can imagine that the reason for Marvel movies to be declining, is it was originally hyped up by fan boys when all the major super heroes were front and center. They were all dudes, kicking ass. Now we have young Tom Holland Spiderman, with his feelings. Doctor Strange, is a sorcerer, not a beefy fighter. Ant-man, is a comedian with love for his family. Also, again, people don't like CGI or something. I was super excited for Quantamania and the world they were going to explore. I saw it in IMAX 3d and I enjoyed it. Thor, Love and Thunder, was fine. It was Thor coming to terms with his losses and losing his love to cancer. Yes, Disney has given a lot of these movies some deeper emotional points, which is probably hard for some older comic fanboys or something, IDK. I'm completely speculating on all of this without any sources. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, was again, GREAT, and they pushed on the emotions of being different and not knowing what you are, then coming to terms with it. It's obvious, but also, just new movies. Maybe the older films were deeper too. I know, the new movies are funny, I like that. I must be in too deep to see the problems with Marvel movies.

My initial feelings before seeing The Marvels, were about how Brie Larson's portrayal of captain Marvel, seemed to be kind of snobbish, for some reason. Sort of how Black Widow and Hawkeye act in last Avengers movies together. The way they interacted and spoke seemed weird to me, within the movies. However, The Marvels, was fine, Brie Larson was supposed to seem kind of distant from everyone. She travelled alone before. She had lost some memories and was getting them back. It all adds up and she wants to open up to her long-lost niece. This movie had 3 females as the main characters. With Nick Fury being an old man on the side. I watched Secret Wars or whatever with him as the lead and yea, Nick Fury is an old man, he can't do a whole lot. He never did that much in the Avengers movies either. Goose, the cat err...Flerken, had a lot of screen time. They had Goose eating a bunch of things and leading to helpful moment near the end of the movie. There was this one place where everyone spoke by singing and it was just one of those nonsense moments. One guy spoke normal because he was bilingual. It was interesting and random enough to be funny to me. The movie was under 2 hours long but felt like it had a lot of content.

Marvel's Next Movie

Is supposedly Deadpool 3 in June 2024? Deadpool 1 and 2 were before Disney took over Marvel, and Deadpool is R rated so not sure what to expect. There was a tease at the end of The Marvels of an alternate dimension with Beast from X-men. So, again, they are teasing X-men characters. We haven't seen them since the Dark Phoenix movie ended that generation. The New Mutants movie was also, confusingly added to back then. With lesser known, younger characters. I don't know what they're planning with them. X-men '97 is a new cartoon continuing the original cartoon with the designs everyone loved. I haven't looked into it much, but I've seen the pop funkos.

There are probably going to be some tv series added in the meantime. Loki Season 2 just ended this month. I'm not keeping track of everything, I just see when it comes out and try to watch it.
